Remote Sens Course 18-22 March 2012

REMOTE SENSING TRAINING COURSE: INTRODUCTION AND APPLICATIONS

Remote sensing has been recognized as a valuable tool for viewing, analyzing, characterizing and making decisions about our environment. Satellite remote sensed data and GIS for land cover, land use and its changes is a key to many diverse applications such as Agriculture, Environment, Forestry, Range, Animal Production,Veterinary, Hydrology, Geology, Urban planning, etc. Natural resource planning, management and monitoring programs depend on accurate information obtained from remote sensing data. The development in satellite technologies as well as remotely sensed image acquisition and analysis offer effective opportunities for monitoring land cover change and provides an attractive source of land cover data.

In this respect, the Training and Information Unit, Faculty of Forestry, University of Khartoum conducts a five-day training course on Remote Sensing. The course will be running during the period 18-22 March 2012 at the Faculty of Forestry Conference Room (programme attached). The course offers basic information in remote sensing and applications in natural resources. It contains satellite remote sensing technology and its applications, digital image processing as well as available tools in handling different satellite data types and extracting information.

Target Group: Researchers, University teachers, Technicians, Graduate students, NGO workers Professionals and employees whose activities are related to remote sensing technology.

Specific Course Objectives

After completing the course, participants will be able to:

  • List and identify the components of remote sensing systems and techniques
  • Select the appropriate technique for specific needs
  • Use the software to classify the satellite image
  • Use remotely sensed data to solve natural resources problems

Fees: The fees for the course equal to SG 750 per participant. For registration kindly contact:
